Jira Import Server and Cloud

Simon Parkes October 20, 2017

We have an old Server and Cloud instance, we would like to combine into one new Datacantre instance, any ideas how we can go about this..

Can easily import from the Server, and from the Cloud, but each import overwrites that previous, as expected..

I guess it's more "append" that we need, even if it's done on a project by project method, export then import..  Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks

Hi Simon,

This is certainly possible, but not the easiest of tasks.

We have a guide that covers many items of this process in more detail:
How to merge JIRA applications instances

You'll want to do a full system export of your Cloud instance into a Server instance. This works best if the Server instance is running the latest version of Jira available(7.5.1 today). This is because Jira Cloud is always updated to the latest available release and we want them to be as close as possible.

On the existing Server instance, you'll want to upgrade it to match versions so its also running 7.5.1(or newer if available when you carry this out).

Now that you have two Jira instances running the same and latest versions, you can work through the Restoring a project from backup.

I highly recommend using an add-on designed to help this process such as:

Project Configurator for Jira

Hope this gives you enough information to get going on this project!

Best regards,
