Jira 5.x and Confluence 3.2.1 user management

Greg Sienkiewicz September 10, 2012

Hello,

Is it possible to run Jira 5.x and Confluence 3.2.1 together? Specifically is it possible to utlize Jira as user management for Confluence in such a version miss-match?

If anyone has tackled such a configuration any tips that you could provide on how to configure the user management in such environment would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Greg

Hi Greg,

For this case, the answer unfortunatelly is no.

Since JIRA version 4.3, was introduced a new user management method called Crowd embedded, which is a smaller version of our Crowd application bundled in JIRA.

The same new user management method was introduced in Confluence since version 3.5. This user management method introduced new tables into the database with the name starting with cwd.

These cwd tables now stores all the users and groups information. Since you are on Confluence version 3.2.1, your Confluence doesn't have the instructions to retrieve users and groups from JIRA cwd tables.

Basically JIRA 4.3+ and Confluence prior 3.5 won't work for delegating the user management to JIRA. The oposite would work, Confluence 3.5+ and JIRA prior 4.3.

I hope this helps.

Cheers
