Java version for Jira related query

Jenin Mohan August 4, 2014

Hi All,

I need to upgrade my Jira instance from 5.1.5 to 6.2 on Linux platform. My Linux OS, as of now has java version "1.6.0_45". Per system requirements for Jira 6.2, java version required is 1.7.

My question is, does Jira installation for Linux comes with its own JRE or do I have to upgrade java for my OS?

Thanks and Regards,

Jenin Mohan

I am using Linux installer now which comes with its own JRE, so issue resolved for me.

If your linux distro came with Java, it is likely OpenJDK, which is not supported. Your best bet is to download the latest Java 1.7 RPM or tarball from Oracle, install it and then configure Jira to use it.
