JQL query to return epics and relates stories/tasks

Hi all,

I am trying to write a JQL query to return a select number of epics and all related stories/tasks etc. under that epic in Jira that I can then use to create a board.

I have got this so far:

project = xx AND issuetype in (Bug, Epic, Story, Task) AND "Epic Link" in ("xx-184", "xx-191")

this query doesn't return epics xx-184 and xx-191 themselves. I have seen some help where parentEpic is also used but my current Jira version doesn't recognise parentEpic.

Is there any way to accomplish this?

This would help if the number of Epics is very few in numbers.

project = xx AND issue in (xx-184, xx-191) OR issuetype in (Bug, Epic, Story, Task) AND "Epic Link" in ("xx-184, xx-191")

@Sadeesh Narendran - Just wanted to share my thoughts

I believe that you your query does not have braces.

project = xx AND issue in (xx-184xx-191) OR issuetype in (Bug, Epic, Story, Task) AND "Epic Link" in ("xx-184xx-191")

As a thumb rule, if you use OR clause in a JQL, make sure  This will actually check for issues from project xx or checks for issues of types Bug, Epic, Story, Task from all the projects.

Does this look good to you ?

(project = xx AND issue in (xx-184, xx-191)) OR (issuetype in (Bug, Epic, Story, Task) AND "Epic Link" in ("xx-184, xx-191"))

without emphasizing on braces it works!

Thanks Sadeesh and Niranjan, this worked perfectly!

For reference, the query used is as follows:

project = XX AND issue in (XX-184, XX-191) OR issuetype in (Bug, Epic, Story, Task) AND "Epic Link" in (XX-184, XX-191)
