Currently we have JIRA v4.4.3#663-r165197.
JIRA Unlimited Users: Commercial License
We would like to upgrade to the latest version of JIRA.
Can we simply download a free trial version onto our test system?
Also, how do we obtain another instance of JIRA?
Your feedback is appreciated!
Hi Janene,
you can get a developer license for your test system from Atlassian. Just look at your licenses in your atlassian account. There's a link to generate the developer license.
Cheers
Thomas
Yes, you can download a free trial. If your license is valid, then you can test it with a "developer" license as well. The upgrade to the latest version is part of your license too, it will only cost you time and effort to test and implement.
Bascially, see https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Upgrading+JIRA
To "obtain another instance", you download and install it on a new server. If it's going to be a production installation, you'll need a license for it.

You can just download new JIRA version from http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/download and create a developer license to use for Testing instance.
