JIRA seems to have got stuck in a loop when transitioning an issue

A user changed the status of an issue (this is in a project using Greenhopper, as well) from Open 1 to In Progress 3 and then JIRA went crazy, creating a new transition from In Progress 3 to In Progress 3 once every second until another user transitioned the issue from In Progress 3 to Resolved 5 , then to Closed 6 , Fixed 1 , then to Open 1 , then to In Progress 3 .

The transitions from In Progress 3 to In Progress 3 happened about once a second, each generating email notifications, for a total of maybe 20,000 seconds.

Our users were not too happy with 20,000 spurious emails in their inbox and have asked me to seek support to try to figure out if this is likely to happen again.

  • There could be a custom listener that could cause the event to be fired a lot of time. Thus, please check if there any or if there any additional plugin installed that come with custom listener. If yes, you might want to temporaily disable those and check
