JIRA import wizard not working

Jeremy Turner October 31, 2014

When trying to import a .csv to the cloud the import wizard isn't finding the corresponding JIRA field for Parent ID, it's not even an option in the drop down list.  Here are the fields I am trying to import.

Parent ID,Issue ID,Issue Type,Summary,Description,Assignee

Hello Jeremy,

it can be now confusing, but JIRA has now two CSV Importers - one for non-admins is available under "Issues" top menu. The other is available for administrators and you can find it under System Menu, section "External system import".

The non-admin importer currently does not support subtasks, so "Parent ID" and "Issue ID" are not available in the dropdown - we have an improvement request for it here: https://ecosystem.atlassian.net/browse/JIM-1391. It's really frequently asked feature, so I do believe we'll add it in next few weeks.

Thanks Przemyslaw! Five years on, Jira still has two importers, of which only the admin one makes any sense. So your answer is still very relevant, and something is deeply wrong with the way the Jira service is being developed.

Try typing Parent id in to the dropdown list. It seems only some of the fields show in the list.
