JIRA formatting is not showing at emails

Kirill Skuibida November 9, 2017

Hi,

Issue relates to JIRA Software server 7.3.

I have a formatted data in issue description field (Heading, tables, bold text, etc.). When I send this issue to the user's Gmail inbox - description field is not showing properly. It goes h1 some text instead of being just a heading. Table goes like |*t1*|*t2*|*t3*| etc.

Please assist if possible. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi Kyrylo,

The "h1" and table formatting such as |*t1*|*t2*|*t3*| and etc. are the Wiki formatting codes used by JIRA. A suggestion which requests for the Wiki formatting be stripped in emails was created here in JRASERVER-9157 but was mark'ed as Won't Fix. This basically means that if you using any Wiki formatting codes in issues, the emails will also contain the codes.

An alternative would be to disable the Wiki renderer by following the instructions below:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/how-to-enable-html-in-jira-text-fields-771895067.html

This shows you the exact text of any strings (without formatting) in JIRA. If the Wiki formatting codes were used in the issues, then the formatting codes would be visible to you. An example when the Wiki renderer is disabled is shown below.
