JIRA & GitHub Comment & Discussion Sync

John DiMaria October 30, 2024

Q. How would I best track comments and discussions that we have being placed in our GitHub and copy / create these automatically in the corresponding JIRA ticket.

This would help with documentation and also tracking purposes since I like how JIRA allows for searches within the comment fields for tickets.

Hi @John DiMaria ,

I have seen that you have two questions around GitHub and Jira integrations. I will copy and paste this answer in both, but address both questions in my answer.

You can achieve both of these use cases and more with ScriptRunner Connect. With ScriptRunner Connect, we have Managed Connectors for both GitHub and Jira Cloud, so connecting to the tools can be done in seconds.

Once you have created connections to the tools you can create your solutions in a Workspace. Here you will be able to create Event Listeners to listen to actions in GitHub and Jira Cloud, and then use the Managed API to easily write a short script to perform the actions you want.

I have recorded a short video for you, showing you how you can do these actions, you can view this here

You can login and use ScriptRunner Connect for free today, we have a free forever trial that you can use to validate the product, just click here

Its worth noting that the advantage with ScriptRunner Connect is that not only can you solve your current challenges, but with the ability to code you have the flexibility to solve any other integrations needs you have or will have moving forward. This goes for not only GitHub to Jira connections, but any tools with REST APIs as our Generic Connector and Event Listeners allow you to listen to and communicate with any tool with a REST API/Webhooks or similar feature.

If I can help you with any more information please let me know!

Kind regards,

Bobby

Hi @John DiMaria

Are you using one of the Jira and GitHub integrations? If so, which one? While they all at least provide a link, some allow for comments and other data to be populated.
