JIRA: Upgrade onto new server 6.3 to 7.x

JAB May 3, 2017

Hello,

We are planning to upgrade JIRA 6.3.3 to JIRA 7.x which includes upgrading our Oracle database to 12c and use new hardware.

What is the optimum plan we are implement.

First thought was to install JIRA 7.x and Crucible-Fisheye 4.x onto new Windows 2016. Migrate data from Oracle 11g to new Oracle 12c

OR

Should we install JIRA 6.3.3 onto new server and upgrate database; then upgrade software to JIRA 7.0 to lastest JIRA?

And what path have poeple used to upgrate Crucible-Fisheye?

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Joseph

For the JIRA upgrade, it should work either way but I vote for "install JIRA 6.3.3 onto new server and upgrade database; then upgrade software to JIRA 7.0 to lastest JIRA"

That way the 6.3.3 instance is "known-good" on the new server so upgrade issues will be isolated from host-moving issues.

This article seems to address the Fisheye/Crucible move/upgrade comprehensively: Migrating and Upgrading FishEye/Crucible
