JIRA Software Release Notifications from Atlassian

david.s.mittman December 8, 2017

So, JIRA Software 7.6.1 was released on 6 December 2017, and the only way I know to find out about it is to periodically look at the version available for download here:

https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/download

I'd like to get notifications (by email, preferably) of every JIRA Software release. How is that done?

Hi David,

Unfortunately there's no officially supported and straightforward way to do this for all releases.

For major releases (e.g. 7.6.0), you can watch the release notes page:

For major and minor releases (e.g. 7.6.1), I like to check https://iapetus.fyi (not officially Atlassian) as it aggregates all the Atlassian products on one page. There are instructions on the site for integrating notifications with your own application, but that's not helpful for the standard administrator.

Another option, one that will actually get you the emails you're looking for with some additional work, is atlassianreleasenotes.tumblr.com (also not officially Atlassian, obviously). The notes are tagged, and you can get RSS feeds for those tags - here's the RSS feed for Jira Software releases only:
https://atlassianreleasenotes.tumblr.com/tagged/jirasoftware/rss

Then it's just a matter of plugging that RSS feed into an rss-to-email service. Take your pick of the following:

So it's possible to get what you're looking for, it just takes a bit of extra work! Better release notifications are asked of Atlassian all the time, so maybe someday soon we'll see official notifications.

Cheers,
Daniel
