JIRA Slow after application restart

paul grant May 31, 2013

After restarting JIRA the application ran very slow and user experience was affected.

This happened for around 5-10minutes after restart (restart complete in logs).

After this period of time the system performance returned to normal, there were no errors in logs and start up had completed successfully.

Any ideas?

JIRA startup is quite resource intensive and takes a bit of CPU to during startup. Also enable Safe Mode and check if the behaviour changes. If yes, enable plugins one by one and check if any specific plugin is causing this behaviour.

The startup logs should be more verbose. Catalina.out says server start up and how long, if the start up process is incomplete this should not be the case. Post setup tasks shold be available in logs. Enabling and disabling plugins is not a suitable option as this is a production instance JIRA, I as hoping that this may be a known issue or that there may be another post start up log available.

Thanks,

Paul

Doubling JVM memory resolved this issue.
