JIRA Sample Project Issue

Huong Hoa Lan October 1, 2012

Hi,

I'm using JIRA trial version 5.1.4 and download the sample project at:

https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRAKB/JIRA+Sample+File+-+Project+Management

When I try to upload this sample, the following error apears:

" This data appears to be from an older version of JIRA. Please upgrade the data and try again. The current version of JIRA is at build number '783', but the supplied backup file was for build number '663'. "

How can I solve this issue ? There is no backward compatible for it in JIRA, is there ?

Thank you.

Hi, since you already download the version 5.1.4, what about download another JIRA 4.4.3. After install, you could import the sample file into 4.4.3 as clean jira instance, and then generate xml backup. Move the xml file to Jira Home Directory and restore back to JIRA 5.1.4 version.

There are a fews pages to guide you on how to backup or restore xml file:

* https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Backing+Up+Data

* https://answers.atlassian.com/questions/91253/backup-and-restore-of-jira

I hope it helps :)

Hi,

The link says "The latest sample file was created using JIRA 4.4.3, please ensure you have this version."

You are running JIRA 5.1.4 and this will not work.

You might be able to raise a support ticket with Atlassian to see what they can do.

You can migrate, but you cannot import something from a different version. To upgrade, you will need to upgrade the entire JIRA application with the current data all to a newer version.

Yah, that's why I asked about backward compatible capability. If JIRA can not do it then what if we migrate the system to newer version ?

Thanks.
