When certain config changes are made to fields, or something goes wrong and it crashes.

A regular re-index is not necessary, and if you feel the need for it, then you have something else wrong and you need to fix that rather than "plaster over the cracks"

We use a stable server. But, we do have to perform full re-index once in a while. How often should that be done?
