JIRA JQL

I have searched test cases in JIRA using Advance Search option for a particular filter and JIRA returned a set of test cases(say count1). But while using the same filter in JQL of rest API, got another set of test cases(say count2). Count1 and count2 are not equal. Can anyone suggest the reason for this count mismatch?
