JIRA Agile: Issue type hierarchy

Is it possible to create a new issue type 'enhancement' and link it to 'epic' issue type?If yes, then can 'story' and 'enhancement' co-exist and have the same parent 'epic'?

Would the enhancement issue type contribute to burn-down charts, if planned in a sprint, just as a story?

your expert opinion would be valued!

Yes, you can do this.

Agile/Software does not actually care that you use "stories" as the issue type for stories.  By making the configuration of enhancements the same as a story, you get the same functionality!  So you can go ahead and use them, as well as features, tasks, penguins - any issue type you want can be added and included in epics.  Add story points and include them in sprints the same way as stories, and they'll be reported in the same way.

Thanks Nic, this helps!
