JIRA 4.1.2 to 6.1.7

Gus Ingenluyff February 15, 2014

I'd like to import our old JIRA data (412) into our new server (617).

Do we need to install an intermediate 445 first? Or is that only for Jira 3.x upgrades?

If I use the import tool it expects 2 xml files in the .zip file. However the 412 zips only have 1 xml file.

Is the hosted version of JIRA any friendlier in this regard?

Hi Gus,

I could export a backup of JIRA and it created just one file indeed. I believe that you can try to upgrade JIRA by simply pointing the new JIRA version to the old home directory. This should trigger the upgrade in the newer jira.

Also, since it's a huge gap between 4.1 and 6.1, I recommend to go through some mid versions such as 4.4, then 5.x then 6.x. This should be better since usually upgrading directly between long versions bring some errors and might be a headache.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Rodrigo
