JDK support for JIRA 5.1.7

Is JDK 1.7 not supported for JIRA 5.1.7? after upgrading to JDK 1.7.0.21 installed. the application could not be brought up,

Is JIRA 5.2 the only way to go with JDK1.7? Thanks

1.7 is supported only from JIRA 5.2.
