Issues and dashboard gone after upgrade

I upgraded the system on jira and first I was having indexing issues. The system could not re-index. I fixed those by deleting the index directory like I read in the knowledge base. Now all my issues and dashboards are gone after upgrading system. Can someone please assist me?

Jira relies on the index to serve up most of the information in searches (and dashboards and lots of other stuff relies on searches)

You say you deleted the index directory. You do NOT mention if you re-indexed to rebuild it. I suspect you need to do that...
