Hi I have created a board for a sub-project. Now I want to create another boards for the other sub-projects. I only have 2 options:

1. Board from an existing project.

2. Board from an existing Saved Filter.

When I created a second board using option 1, all the changes I made to the second board also happened to the first board.

Hi @Korapin Itakornpan and welcome to the community,

First of all, what is a "sub-project"? There isn't such a term within Jira. I will take it that you are referring to just a jira project.

Boards rely on filters and it's just the visual representation of issues, based on that filter. Usually when you create a board based on a project, this board contains a filter with all issues from that project.

What kind of changes you make that also affect the "other" board? This doesn't make a lot of sense, unless you adjust a filter used in both boards.

Adding to this...

Issues exist in Projects, not "in" boards. Boards are just a method to visualize and interact with the issues. Boards are based on filters to select which issues show in a board.

Since multiple filters can select the same issues, any given issue may display in multiple boards at the same time. Any change you make to an issue in any given board will be reflected for that issue in every board that displays that issue.

When you create a board using the first option, you are telling Jira to create a board that will display all issues from the project(s) that you specify as you continue to step through the Board Creation wizard. If you have created multiple boards with that option and selected the same project(s) each time, then all of those boards are showing the same issues. Changes to the issues in any of the boards will be reflected in every board that is showing those issues.

As @Alex Koxaras _Relational_  mention, there is not concept of a "sub-project" in Jira. Can you explain what you mean by that?

For instance, you might have one Project that contains issue for different work products or different Teams. You may use a field in each issue to identify the work product or Team for each issue. You might then create and save a filter that selects just the issues related to that work product or Team. You could then create a board using the second option (based on a saved filter) to show the subset of issues related just to the work product or Team that you specified in your saved filter. You could create and save multiple filters; one for each work product or Team, and create one board each for each of those filters.
