Is there a way to not clone fix version field when cloning an issue?

I am trying to see if there is a way to not clone some fields (particularly fix version) when cloning an issue in JIRA.

I don't think this is possible by default, but you can possibly use the Clone Plus Plugin for JIRA from Bob Swift to achieve this. :)

are there any free Plugins to accomplish this that you know of?

Unfortunately not, the only other option I could find is the (kinda ugly) workaround described at 'How can certain jira fields be restricted from cloning' :(

Not exactly what you want, but you can bulk edit the cloned issues. So clone and then bulk edit.
