Is there a way to link multiple projects to a single version?

Our company is exploring the option of creating a project in JIRA per customer (total of 5) for security/permission requirements. However, when we release an upgrade to our soaftware it is one version that goes to all customers.

Is there is a way to have a single version be attached to all projects? Adding a new version number after every release for every project might be manigble for the moment, but this will become labor intensive as we have more releases and more clients.

No, but JIRA Command Line Interface can be used to ease the management. There have been other similar questions that you can look up for more details, but copyVersions is one of the actions that would help.
