Is there a way to have JIRA update Portfolio when a Story changes fixversion?

Bill Rinko-Gay February 11, 2016

We are testing Portfolio with a project that has in-progress planning. We've been using FixVersion to help plan releases. As we work with our stakeholders we're making changes in JIRA, can those sync to Portfolio? It would greatly help my evalution.

This is good news. I will appreciate being able to plan in Portfolio and have the information push down to JIRA.

However, there will be times when the Scrum teams will show a delay in a release that will cause us to re-scope the release. If we do that in JIRA we would want the information to come back into Portfolio - even if only after a review.

Just sharing in case it impacts your decisions about the future.

Hey Bill, in current portfolio plans fixVersion assignments are only maintained upon issue import into Portfolio. If you first import the versions as releases into Portfolio and then import issues, then the assignments are maintained. Otherwise there is currently no way to re-update/sync the version assignments, which means you either need to re-import the issues, or manually update version assignments.

That being said, as of last week we started giving access to so-called Portfolio Live Plans - still in labs mode and not yet feature complete, but they feature a new integration with JIRA, where data from JIRA such as new versions, or version assignments will update automatically in Portfolio (for the way back from Portfolio into JIRA, you can still "preview" your changes, and then "commit" them when you're done with planning). If you're interested in checking out Live Plans, all you need to do is upgrade to Portfolio 1.12 (if on Server, on Cloud you'll have it automatically), and in the Portfolio Permissions Administration grant selected users access to Portfolio Labs. You'll then see a new option for "Live Plans" in the Portfolio Plan creation dialog (see also https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRAPortfolio/Portfolio+for+JIRA+1.12+Release+Notes
