Is there a way to disable the ability to add columns to the issue navigator/filter for specific users?

Frank Vidal December 16, 2013

We are granting clients access to JIRA so that they can see the status of issues/tasks. Also, we are giving them access so that they may create issues or request new features. We have been able to hide all estimates and worklogs, but we haven't been able to figure out how to limit the columns that the client user can add to the Search for Issues screen. Also, we would like to be able to remove from view certain default columns as well. Thanks in advance for any help that is provided.

This is not possible at this time. What you are trying to achieve is effectively covered in https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-1330which we have marked as won't fix. We have released Service Desk (https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/service-desk) which is a new product to extend JIRA for use with users that need to be exposed to a smaller dataset.

You can configure the default collumns per the docs outlined at: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Configuring+the+Default+Issue+Navigator
