When Jira/Greenhopper was first installed, there were a significant number of issues that were being closed without a resolution attached to them. Do a jql search with
status in (Closed, Resolved) and resolution is EMPTY
then bulk change > delete as Timothy suggested.
Alternatively enable editing of closed issues and bulk edit them to add a resolution
