Is there a way to create a new status or priority using an api?

Hello,

I'm wondering if there is a way to create a new status or priority using the JIRA api? 

I noticed that both /status and /priority have GETs. I've tried to create a status and priority using the /field POST api but have been unsuccessful.

Not currently. Your best bet would be to create an issue over at jira.atlassian.com and suggest to get people to vote on it.
