Is there a plugin to keep Jira + Github issues in sync?

I've been looking to see if I can find a plugin. I absolutely love JIRA and Confluence, but we use github as a public issue tracker, and would like to be able to keep them in sync some how. It's not an absolute deal breaker, but I thought I would ask.

Note: I know DVCS can pull over the issues, but I'm looking to keep them in sync. If I close an issue on Github, it'll close on Jira. If I open one on Jira, it'll open on Github.

There are many tools out there that can do similar things to what you are looking for.

I work at Exalate Sync Tool. What you are describing we call it status mapping, it can be done after you have an ongoing Exalate connection following the next steps:

We developed a spike for exalate.  Exalate is an issue synchronisation solution extending beyond the realm of the atlassian environment.  The result allows to do the basic synchronisation between the two trackers

Is there any update on this issue? In my Organization most of the  teams use JIRA for tracking their tickets and few teams use GitHub for their ticket/issue management.

Project I am working on need collaboration with teams using JIRA and those using GH. 

I want JIRA to be a place which can be used to visualize overall status of the Program. 

I would really appreciate someone can share progress in this topic.

Hey there,

I tried to install the 'unito app'and it works (GitHub-Jira). It was easy to do it from one UI. 

I also wanted to try installing 'Exalate' This requires two UI on the Jira side and GitHub side. On the Jira side, I had no issues. But when I try to connect to GitHub I was unable to display its list of repositories. Although the API personal key has such settings ("repo" checked). Can anyone know what could be the reason?

And price, if I would like to connect GitHub with Jira do I need a license for GitHub $95 and Jira (from marketplace $5) Is it correct?

Hey @Rostyslav Sipakov !

At the moment, you will only be able to sync Jira tickets to GH issues. Repos and commits are currently not available to sync.

Hey everyone! Unito syncs Jira to GitHub. You can use filters and mapping features to decide what gets synced and where it goes. Any updates made in your Jira project will automatically be reflected in the synced GitHub repo. Here's some more info: https://unito.io/integration/jira-github/

Yup, it works in every direction, or both.

and also many-to-one if you want, so you can sync issues between multiple github repos with 1 jira project, or vice versa.

https://BoardGenius.io is a great tool for syncing Jira to Github or both ways. It syncs with Trello as well. There's also exalate.com.

A question on your requirement though, why do you need to keep them in sync? Why duplicate issues? Why not use one instead of the other?

Public and private. We're a small team who wants to use JIRA for project planning and organization, but we use Github for public. There are 6 of us on the team, so the 10 user plan works fine for us. As our project is basically non-profit, we can't exactly shell out thousands of dollars to allow hundreds of random people to access to Jira.

That seems to be a good use case and then I wonder why is there is no add-on for it and it led me to believe that's not popular or it's not needed. 

Maybe because JIRA can still act your "public issue tracking" tool without burning licenses by allowing anyone to report issues (there are many ways to this like playing around the permission scheme or the JIRA Issue Collector).

So there are ways to allow unlimited "reporters"?

Not unlimited reporters, but sort of alternatives.

• Anonymous Reporting - you can setup your JIRA instance so that anyone can create/view issues to your JIRA project (read this first!)
• JIRA Issue Collectors - you have the control on who will be the reporter be then there's the advantage of the "name" and "Email" fields from the reporter
