Is there a Started or start date and end/complete field in the baseline fields for Jira Datacenters?

Chris Miller March 5, 2021

I am looking for the Start date field I thought existed in Jira, but can't seem to located it.  Not wbs-gantt, just a start date.  I am also trying to find the completed date and again it does not show up as a date i can selected.

I did find resolved date, which I would like to display in the Jira AdvRoadmaps plan, but it would let me select?

Use case for this is I need a ACTUAL start and end date, and was hoping to use something within Jira rather than create a new field.

Hi @Chris Miller ,

As an alternative, you can try Status Time app developed by our team at Bloompeak. It provides reports on how much time passed in each status as well as status entry dates and status transition count.

Once you enter your working calendar into the app, it takes your working schedule into account too. That is, "In Progress" time of an issue opened on Friday at 5 PM and closed on Monday at 9 AM, will be a few hours rather than 3 days. It has various other reports like assignee time, status entry dates, average/sum reports(eg. average in progress time per project). And all these are available as gadgets on the dashboard too.

Here is the online demo link, you can see it in action and try.

If you are looking for a free solution, you can try the limited version Status Time Free. Hope it helps.

I will test out both of those and see which might work, thanks

unfortunately this does not seem to do what I need.  I need to be able to pull dates that already exist in Jira into an AdvRoadmaps plan.

For example, when a issue is resolved, there is a field called "Resolved" that is a date field.  When I am in a Board or Filtering issues I can filter on this.  But I cannot pull that field into Advanced Roadmaps, it does not seem to be an option even though it is a standard Jira field.    I need that field to show 'actual completion/finish date".

As for "actual start" date, I need to be able to pull in the date it moved to in-progress, for this I don't see a standard Jira field so may have to create a custom field.

Hello @Chris Miller ,

Our team at OBSS built Time in Status app for similar needs. Its date reports might help you with that. TiS is available for Jira Server, Cloud and Data Center.

Mainly, Time in Status allows you to see how much time each issue spent on each status or assigned to each assignee. It also has 4 types of date reports that show first/last issue transition dates for each issue. Below is a sample screenshot for these reports.

tisCloud_FirstTransitionToStatusDate_Report.png

(The screenshot above shows dates for all statuses but you can select which statuses you want to see in the report)

The app calculates its reports using already existing Jira issue histories so when you install the app, you don't need to create a custom field or add anything to your issue workflows and you can get reports on your past issues as well.

The reports can be displayed on TiS reporting page, dashboard gadgets and Jira issue view pages.

Using Time in Status you can:

  • See how much time each issue spent on each status, assignee, user group and also see dates of status transitions.
  • Calculate averages and sums of those durations grouped by issue fields you select. (For example see average InProgress time per project and per issuetype.)
  • Export your data as XLS, XLSX or CSV.
  • Access data via REST API. (for integrations)
  • Visualize data with various chart types.
  • See Time in Status reports on Jira Dashboard gadgets (released for cloud, server&DC gadget coming soon)

Thanks Emre.  We use TiS for our JiraSD but had not considered for Jira Core.  I will certainly research and suspect it could work for us.
