We currently host all of our Atlassian products ourselves. Just out of curiosity, has anyone attempted to use a mix of self-hosted and ondemand services. We have considered letting Atlassian host Confluence for example, and we would continue to host JIRA ourselves. Anyone try this or have any experience with it? Would it be as simple as creating an Application Link between the two? If we use AD/LDAP for both services, would it be easy to maintain the user base?

It's possible, and yes, you can do some stuff with application links.

But AD is out - you can't use it on Cloud.  Only google or the internal accounts can be used on Cloud
