Is it possible to only show people part of a project in the assignee list?

We'd like to limit who users can assign to a project to only people who are part of the project instead of any user part of our Jira instance - please let me know if we can make this happen as it seems like a pretty reasonable ask.

only users (assigned directly or to a group) in a role with the assignable permission at the project permission scheme will be allowed to be assigned .
