Is it possible to only send notifications for selected comments?

Deleted user October 18, 2018

Hello,

in our Jira system the comments are used for communication with the reporter but also for communication with the other people who are working on the ticket. Therefore in the comment section very technical things are discussed. The Reporter should get noifications if the Assignee selects that the comment is relevant for him. So the question is: Is it possible to only send notifications to the Reporter for selected comments?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

As far as I know, Jira does not offer such a feature by default. However you can design a workflow transition for this purpose.

  • First remove reporter from Comment configuration of your project's notification scheme.
  • Add a transition to your workflow such as "Non-technical comment".
  • Add a custom event and add this event to your new transition.
  • Add reporter to custom event on your project's notification scheme.

Now your users can use this transition whenever they will make a non-technical comment that you want your reporter to see. However there is a downside to this. You need add this transition to all statuses in the workflow and that means a lot of work.

There is also another option that you can use: comment security. But this means that your reporter will also not be able to see all the comments made with this security option.
