Is it possible to display an overview / the context for a sub-task's parent?

As most of my assigned tickets / todo items are sub-tasks, it would be great to be able to show the summary of the parent for a sub-task. I assume this can be easily done with a custom plugin, but I wanted to touch base with the community first.

I do not want to copy all values from the parent to the sub-task as my definitions of both are very different and they contain a different set of fields.

It seems to be possible using the virtual parent fields that the JIRA Workflow Toolbox plugin provides (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.fca.jira.plugins.workflowToolbox.workflow-toolbox/).
