We use BigPicture / BigGantt from softwarePlanet to track dates and milestones. we use the same filter as our agile boards which included the fixVersion from multiple projects.

we use issues for milestones and link them all to end together.  Therefore,  when one project fixversion date moves out, all of the fixVersion dates move.

this concept has worked well for our agile and waterfall teams.

Not formally, no.

To implement a sort of hierarchy between issues of different projects, you could use the Structure plugin and implement filters that would place issues from "Child" project B underneath issues from "Parent" project A using a custom Issue Link. We have a few projects that use this. It works well and is fairly automatic / low maintenance.

Now, that won't give you a timeline, but since your portfolio-level issues will contain issues from all their "child" projects, Structure will supply you with add-on fields that sum up Original and Remaining estimates, as well as logged time. You would be halfway there.

Or, you know. Get the Portfolio plugin. I never used it, and it looks a bit pricey, but sounds like that would do the trick handsomely.

Nicolas,

The "Structure" has some inconsistency issues with the way it calculates the total number of points and has no Graphical reports available.

The Portfolio level timeline (to monitor the portfolio level milestones) is not available out of the box or on the new Portfolio JIRA feature. The "Portfolio" doesn't honor parent - child relationship for the Feature and child user stories. It has a very limited set of reports and no way to export them outside of the Jira.

I was hopping for someone to say that there is the way to use JIRA for the SAFe program management sad

Thank you,

Igor
