In Views when I select Excel - the spreadsheet is blank

This is probably the bug Microsoft introduced recently.  With the blank sheet, go to File -> Options -> Trust Centre -> Trust Centre Settings -> Protected View and un-tick the "enable protected view for files from the internet"

It's a nice six-legged "feature" from MS - technically, not a bad security idea, but there's no question that "silently not opening files and not telling the user why you're losing their data" is a bug.
