Hi Gurinder

When you say need to Improt external project you mean importing one project in one JIRA to another JIRA instance? If yes, the Project Import feature requires that the XML backup containing the Project must be in the same version as the destination JIRA.

Just be aware that you may be required to change the configuration (Workflows/custom fields/screens) of your target JIRA instance to accommodate the project import. Additionally, the Project Import data mapping can be resource intensive on your hardware and may take a long time to complete, if you are importing a large project.
You can find more information in this documentation:
Hope it helps.

i'm new to JIRA i need to Improt external project and add a new project.

-Get a dump of the current database

-Map all the Abstract column within the import to the type

-we will have to do some format changes, and other changes to match it the way JIRA needs it

-Run a back of our production JIRA database (as a precaution)

-Import the data into JIRA
