Hello @Wendy Thorneloe

Thank you for reaching out.

The process to migrate Jira Server to Cloud will be different based on the following answer for the following question: You currently have any data that should be kept in your Jira Cloud site?

If you don't have any data to be kept in Jira Cloud and there's no problem if your Jira Server import will completely overwrite all the existing data in Jira Cloud, you can follow the steps described in the documentation below:

Use Jira Site Import to migrate from server to cloud

Now, if you want your data to be kept in your Jira cloud and just want to add the projects from Jira server to your Cloud site, you can follow the steps provided in this documentation, however, changing some of the steps:

  1. Install a new instance of the latest version of Jira Server. You can do this using a free evaluation license
  2. Create a backup for the Jira Server instance you want to merge. This will contain the projects you'd like to import to Jira Cloud.
  3. Next, import your data from your current Jira Server to the new Jira Server instance you created.
  4. Create an XML backup of your new Jira Server instance. This will be used later for project imports.
  5. Create a backup for Jira Cloud
  6. Import the backup for Jira Cloud A to the new Jira Server instance.
  7. Using the Jira Server backup you created in step 4, import the projects you want from Jira Server to the Jira Server instance you created. You should now have the projects you want from both Jira Cloud and Server in the new instance you created.

P.S: If the attachments are not included during the project restore, the imported project will not have attachments associated with it. Attachments can't be restored separately because the database entries for the attachments will be missing.

  8. After successfully importing all the required projects, create a backup of the new Jira Server you created
  9. Import that backup file into your final Jira Cloud site.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you for you information. I was actually given the wrong information.

Its actually Jira Cloud to Jira Cloud. This all seams very complicated. Do you know of a company that does this for a fee?

Hello @Wendy Thorneloe

Thank you for clarifying that you want to migrate from Cloud to Cloud Jira applications.

I'm not aware of any company that can run the migration for you, although I believe that any users that have some familiarity with the application can perform the migration. In fact, I would like to let you know that the process to migrate the data from a Jira Cloud site to another is pretty simple. Basically, these would be the steps:

Export your Jira Cloud data:

  1. Choosethe Jira icon(, or)>Jira settings>System

  2. In the IMPORT AND EXPORT section, click Backup manager.

  3. Under Backup for cloud, select Create backup for cloud.

You can tick the Include additional files option if you want to include issue attachments, user avatars, and project logos in the export.

Import your Jira Cloud data:

  1. First, we recommend splitting your cloud backup file into two separate files: a database file containing your activeobjects.xml and entities.xml, and a separate one for your attachments and other media. This can help avoid timeout errors and reduce the risk of issues when importing.
  2. Once you've split your backup into separate database and media files, follow the instructions on importing issues to import them to cloud.
  3. After the import, log in to your new Jira Cloud site with the same admin account you used to log in to your original site.

For more information, you can check the documentation below:
