I have a user that works multiple tasks a day and would like to use the start\stop progress button to track his time instead of adding his time in - any ideas?
Can get tricky, but give it a try. Therefore you have to modify the workflow and ad some scripting. I think with script runner its best.
Or you use the API: searching all issues of that user and counting the time between a start / stop event, aggregating it and adding it as a worklog entry back to the issue.
