I want the assignee to stay the same after a story is closed.

I want the assignee to stay the same after a story is closed. Right now it gets assigned back to project lead and it is affecting the work flow. Is it possible? Can anyone please update the steps to enable this settings in jira for a specific project.

Hi @Padmakanta Parida,

If it gets assigned to someone else when a story is closed, that is most likely because there is a post function in your workflow responsible for this.

Fixing this is basically very simple:

  • Edit the story workflow of your project;
  • Locate the post functions  associated with the close issue transition
  • Remove the post function that reassigns the issue to the project lead
  • Publish the workflow

You mention "enable this settings in jira for a specific project".

If your workflow is being used for multiple projects and you want the change to apply to just a single project, you will have to take a couple of additional steps. Before you update the workflow, create a copy of the workflow and the workflow scheme of your project first:

  • Copy the workflow scheme your project is using
  • Copy the story workflow you want to modify

Then, apply the changes described above to the copy of the story workflow. And finally:

  • Replace the old story workflow in the copy of the workflow scheme with the new version
  • Replace the workflow scheme of your project with the new workflow scheme
