I need to change the operating system time zone from UTC to EST. How will this affect JIRA records?

JIRA v7.1.9 on Ubuntu.  I want to change the time zone for this OS from UTC to EST. Are there any problems with doing this in regards to the JIRA DB?

When I've tried to change the timezone for the server hosting our JIRA app, JIRA stopped working with an error stating that it is in a different time than the database time. I haven't tried changing the time on the DB machine and see if it worked but I think (with emphasis on "I think") you will have to do this in tandem (change the timezone both on the DB machine and JIRA machine.
