I need batch delete issues in Jira

I am new to python and trying to write a script that will return total numbers of issues in the project, at the moment I am getting back only 1000 the maximum set in JIRA so I have to repeat a loop 4 times setting values "startAt=0, maxResults=1000", "startAt=1000, maxResults=2000 and so on, how can I get all the issues with one iteration I have tried setting "maxResults=-1" didnt work for the jira version I have JIRA Agile v6.7.16, can someone help me please how can I do this?

Cheers :)
