Hi Brian,
Instances can not be created instantly, and require time to get installed and started up. Upon completion of your sign up process, it can take 10 to 15 minutes before the instance is up and running and available for use. If you have not been able to access your instance after that time, please raise a support request at https://support.atlassian.com
