I cannot remove a closed sprint from the gantt/timeline board.

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
The sprint was closed due to change in priorities leading to shifting a lot of tasks to other parents. But somehow the sprint is still active in the Gantt/timeline and it is not even giving me any option to change it apart from changing it start and end dates. The sprint dialogue in the right panel of the story is leading me to the sprint report and not giving me an option to remove it from the sprint.
