Search based on status in the issue navigator?

status = Open should be enough if you are using Advanced Searching using JQL.

https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Advanced+Searching

resolution = unResolved will get you all issues that are not resolved but could be in other statuses like "In progress" as well.
