How to search projects starting with a specific character / using a wildcard

Markus Tollmann January 16, 2014

Fairly new using JIRA I'm thinking about the best way to name the projects. As we are using SAP I started naming them like in SAP: Customer projects are all beginning with "C" (C.2001550, C.2001571, ...), Development project have a "D" in front.

But unfortunately I'm not able to search for all issues that are in projects starting with "C". I found nothing like a wildcard.

If there's no function like this - can I add custom fields to a project definition?

Thanks in advance!

I found out that I can use project categories.

A category is searchable ( category = C and ...)

They can be defined under Administration > Projects > Project categories.

And then picked when I administer a project. Not easy to find, it's below the project titel, near the menu.

I would use labels instead of putting into the name itself. I would have labels 'CUSTOMER' and 'DEVELOPMENT'. Your search would include a labels = or labels in clause when it is needed.
