How to replace incorrect workflows with new correct workflows to an ongoing project?

Swapna Veer October 30, 2017

Project X has few incorrect workflows associated to Stories, Epic, Bug and Tasks. And there are many epics, stories tasks created previously and releases ran/still run on those incorrect workflows. However, realizing the error, created all new workflows for Iteration process and Bug life cycle. Now, the issue is without creating a new Project Y, can the new workflows be added to the the ongoing Project X.If yes, would like to know what impact will it have on the project if the new workflows are added to the existing Project X. If no, appreciate help for an alternate solution for this, so that at least the upcoming releases will be in the right track and order. Thanks in advance.

Hello, you can add new workflows to the ongoing project. You have to edit workflow scheme for the project and connect necessary issue types to the new workflows. Then you need to publish the scheme and you will be asked how to migrated existing issues. After filling up all the information all issues will be migrated.

I performed this operation on a production instance of Jira without disconnecting users and had no problems so far.

You can read more about managing workflow permissions here:

Thanks Alexey. That was very helpful. Jira is so vast in itself, I had no time to say thanks to you. Better late than never. Thanks a ton for the help.
