Hi @Nana ,

Welcome to the community!

I see two options:

1. If you are using the default Description field in Jira the Jira admin cannot actually delete it. The Jira admin can hide the Description field in more than one way:

  • Removing it from the view screen. Adding it back to the screens will make it appear again.
  • Hiding the field via the field configuration. So simply pressing "show" on the field in the field configuration will make it appear again.

==> Quick way to check if this is the case is to create a filter search for the particular issuetype and add the Description field as a column. Can you see the text now? Then its probably just hidden from issue view

2. If you are using  a custom field for Description, then its possible for the Jira Admin to delete that field. All deleted custom fields ends up in the Trash and can be reinstated, but if they have removed from trash it is gone forever

Hello @Nana ,

Unfortunately, if no backups or database traces exist, the data may not be recoverable. Regular backups are essential to avoid data loss in such scenarios.

To back up your data, it's possible to go a few ways:

- create a backup and export data (the detailed description is given here: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/export-issues/ )

- use third-party backup tools, like GitProtect backup and Disaster Recovery software for Jira Cloud (you can learn more about the backup solution on Atlassian Marketplace: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1228719/gitprotect-io-for-jira-backup-restore-dr-data-management?hosting=cloud&tab=overview )

Regards,

Daria
