How to migrate from service desk to normal project?

Sateesh Chandra November 22, 2016

Hi , We are migrating out JIRA projects to a different JIRA which does not have Service desk. Is there a way to convert a service desk to normal JIRA project.

Sateesh, certainly you can create a project and import. The documentation does a good job of explaining how.

  1. Create project in 6.4. Setup all of your workflows, issuetypes you want etc.
  2. Export JSD project
  3. Import JSD project to project created in #1.

If you have JSD projects that you want to change to JSW this can be done in each project > project settings > details - change the project type there.

We are still at JIRA 6.1. The plan is to migrate to JIRA 6.4 without service desk. Can I create a new empty project in the destination JIRA and perform a csv import.

If you do that, what happens to the data in fields that are Service Desk specific (e.g. Customer Request Type)?  Is this data removed from the issues?

Link to the appropriate doc: https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/how-to-remove-or-disable-a-service-desk-777027025.html

Generally, you will find the documentation covers these common scenarios.
