I'm a freelancer Linux System Engineer and I'm just evaluating JIRA ServiceDesk for my business.
I really love the 'Log work' feature as well as the relating features such as estimating work. But for transparency reasons to my customers, I'd really like to give them a read-only permission to view the estimated and logged work for an issue in their customer panel. How can I do that?

That's not what Service Desk customers are for. A customer is someone who raises requests, not someone who monitors time logged or spent - it's not important to them.
To allow time reporting, you'll need to make them JIRA users.
