How to import customer data into JIRA?

Ulrich August 10, 2012

In order to see which customer reported a bug and in oder to be able to reply to it, I need customer data in JIRA, like customer_id, customer_name, contact_name, contact_email,...

I don't see any functionality pointing in this direction. Do I better use a different product? I heard that JIRA is also usable for customer support purposes, but likewise, I don't see any features for this.

Did I all get it wrong?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Just to extend Joe's answer, create the custom fields and import your data using CSV importer.

JIRA is an issue tracking tool that is designed to be tailored to your needs. You can create fields for most needs so you could create them for the customer information you want to capture. People have used it for customer support purposes, but it isn't specifically designed for it. I know some folks have written articles on using it for help desk or customer service. I don't have the links, but they should show up in a internet search. You should also look at the jira suite utilities and jira-toolkit plug ins. Many people install them on all JIRA systems they stand up.
