How to edit Epics and stories and add details in jira portfolio

Vaishail October 6, 2015

Hi,

we want to use JIRA portfolio as a planning tool.

Want to create epics and stories there.  Once they are groomed, we want to move them to a sprint.

I can create epics and stories in JIRA portfolio but unable to add estimate, attach files etc.

Can someone tell me how it can be done.?

Any pointers using JIRA portfolio will be very helpful.

thanks,

  • Vaishali

Hi Vaishali,

When you create epics and stories in JIRA Portfolio, in a first step they exist only in Portfolio, and are not yet "real" JIRA issues where you can add attachments etc. You should be able to estimate them though, in the estimate column in the backlog, and also add a description, in the details view (hover a row, and click the little "details" link.

The idea from there is to do a "Create and link issues" once you are ready to push it into your JIRA project. (think of Portfolio as a staging area for planning, once you are happy with your plan, you push the issues into the JIRA projects) - you find "Create and link issues" either on each individual item, or can do it also for a complete epic or initiative with all its children at once.

After creating and linking into JIRA projects, you have a full-fledged ticket with all capabilities like attachments etc. in JIRA.
